Dominic Blogg (Rap)

So I think I found out what I like about rap; rather, old gangsta' rap which to me is considered to be UGK, Scarface,   Kendrick Lamar?.. hell no!, B.I.G. and even Dr. Dre. What I like about gangsta rap is that no matter what these guys say, or how they say it will ever make them any less of who they are or what they are trying to represent (which may depend on which artist your listening to) They could say the weirdest or most straightforward thing  they  want to say, and it wouldnt change  no matter what they go through or what people say about these heros through their life.

Massive Attack,

So apparently massive attack has been around for longer than I thought which actually was kinda surprising since their sound is what some dubstep tries to be these days or wishes it could be. I first heard them through last fm radio on my computer and if their was one way to explain how they sound; it would be something along the lines of ominous and eerie because I can agree with alot of people that, with the combined typical instruments used in a band added with special amplifiers and sound distorter's to make this a band to listen to up late at night.

Nirvana and Pearl Jam  in my opinion are very different from each other and are not even in the same genre . Pearl Jam is more mainstream and relates to the majority of people that turn on the radio because this band eventually got recognized enough to be broadcasting on live radio. Nirvana wasnt trying that hard to be famous which, ironically, got them to be famous, as well as pitch, when Kurt sings or rather, mumbles is totally different than when the lead singer in pearl jam sings. Overall they both created a defining impact on music as a whole even to this day, because they were winners and only winners get to be in the history books.

Ive gotten slowly more use to rap and hip hop now not just because of Mr. A's Class but also because on Ratatat. These Two Guys (a DJ, and  guitarist) are excellent on their own but when rap artist like  B.I.G., Z-ro, Slim Thug,U.G.K and many more are introduced to the mix, there just ain't no stoppin'

Iv been listening to TV on the Radio and they have made their own genre of music. I cant put my finger on it but its somewhere in between physcadelic and ambient beats. Lyrics kick ass! Please listen to them!!

So the beastie boys were a collaboration of different genres but iv concluded that since the era of funk was in its prime just before beastie boys came on the scene; the beastie boys got most of their inspiration from funk and disco music. Crazy right!!

Listened to Elvis Costello is class today and honestly; i dont really like him that much and ill tell you why as well as some good things he does. I like how he and the rest of the band play typical guitar, bass, drums, singer ( i guess there wasnt much of a choice back then) but to me that is what true rockers play, im saying this in the way that isnt the attitude part of  a rocker like the "punk" mindset you describe in class; im talking about what rock sounds and looks like to me besides the words/ attitude.
I dont like how you cant hear a goddamn thing he says like he tried to do the old radio-like sound that Julian Casablancas from the Strokes did (even though strokes came way after). I dont like how the guitar sounds like someone banging two metal pipes together and how it hurt my years. I DO like how he has such snide remarks in his lyrics but i think what i dislike the most in his music and i guess all music that has this feature: SEX. I cant stand how everything is about sex and how they cant seem to understand that there is more to life than a hot babe or your bitchy ex-girlfriend to sing about. Even the Beatles got me hating the word "love" just alittle bit more now, i just like listening to deeper things or just other problems in the world or that are in their life because those ideas help me get on with my life and thinking more in depth about my life rather than hearing about how this girl use to love me, now we broke up, and now i have more feelings about her.      Get over it. Come back to me with something more meaningful, or just stop getting famous so that other people wont have to be beatin over the head with  more crappy songs about how your too lazy to sing about anything else.

I am just really glad to know that the strokes had been strongly influenced by Ramones, they even dress similar (jean jacket or leather with skinny jeans). But i havnt really listened to Ramones on my own personal time but when we listened to them in class; there were alot of songs that ive defiantly heard. Im gonna go  listen to the Ramones now.

THE SHINS

The shins have been in my music collection for many years but i feel that when i return to old bands and listen to their albums (like Chutes Too Narrow) i remember just how beautiful James Mercer's lyrics are.

Led Zeppelin

The movie we watched of the Led Zeppelin concert was ok. It diddnt seem to have too much insight to it as a typical movie would, the movies we watched in the past including the documentary's were much more factual to me because to me; this was just a live concert. I do like Led Zeppelin as what they should be and what they are which is music, they have made tons of rockin albums and have maid a couple not so good ones in my eyes but  they have maid it to the rock hall of fame for sure.

Paul McCartney's album againt John Lennnon was pretty phenominal on how they were kinda implying   each other and griction starts to show.

This Band 'Maps and Atlases' has an indie sound to it which is very unique, i think its because the man dude is have Irish and sounds kinda folky.
I think Led Zepllin  as a hole is similar to the Beatles with how they creat the same catchy melodies.

Best dominic blog

Listen to Maps and Atlases because youv never hear alternative rock quit like this, fast guitar, with a slighty odd slow bass, the drums are in between. Listen to the Trees, Swallows, Hollows  album. All of it.

I love Black Sabeth because even though you cant understand  fu*k'in  Ozzy  half the time; the lyrics definitely shout rock, this is because they are words of  breaking through the man, fighting da power!
